How much does it cost to book an Uber ride from one continent to another? Uber charged $39,317 (roughly Rs. 32,39,610) per person to travel from the UK to Australia. Although it happened by accident, the ‘Uber Yatra’ which cost a lot of money is a hit on all social media.
Oliver Kaplan, 22, from Manchester, UK, booked a taxi through the app from his place of work. The drop-off location was set to a pub in Wychwood to meet friends. It is approximately a 15-minute drive from the pick-up location. The drop-off location was just 6.4 km away. The cost of this trip is just $12.
However, the next day, Oliver received a bill from Uber for $39,317 (approximately Rs. 32,51,300). Oliver said he booked an Uber, as he does most nights on his way home from work, and the driver arrived, got into the Uber, and took him to his destination.
Oliver immediately contacted Uber’s customer support to find out why he was billed so heavily for such a short trip. However, an Uber spokesperson revealed that due to some technical issues, the drop off location was wrongly recorded to a place of the same name in Australia.
Luckily Oliver’s bank account didn’t have enough money so the amount wasn’t charged. This is why Uber informed Oliver about this via text message. This is not the first time a passenger has received a hefty bill from Uber. In 2020, a drunken British student was fined $1,700 (roughly Rs. 1,40,075) for giving the wrong location.
