Google’s popular browser Chrome will reportedly stop working on some computers starting in January. The company has officially announced that Chrome will stop working on PCs running Windows 7 and Windows 8.1. Customers will need to upgrade to Windows 10 and Windows 11 to continue using newer versions of Chrome. The services will be completely discontinued after the release of Google Chrome v110 on February 7, 2023. Microsoft is ending support for Windows 7 ESU and Windows 8.1.
Meanwhile, the company has clarified that older versions of Chrome will continue to work on PCs running Windows 7 and 8.1. But the browser will not receive any updates. If you are currently using Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, it is recommended that you upgrade to the latest version of Windows immediately to ensure that you continue to receive the latest security updates and Chrome features.
Microsoft previously announced that support for Windows 7 ESU and Windows 8.1 will end on January 15, 2023. Windows 7 support ended in January 2020. Windows 8.1 users can still upgrade to the new OS, but they won’t get any ESUs (Extended Security Update), the company says. Microsoft recommends users to buy a new PC with Windows 11 installed as upgrading to the new OS slows down the system.
Microsoft says computers running Windows 8.1 can still be used. However, Microsoft will no longer provide technical support for any issues, software updates, security updates or fixes.
