Following Elon Musk’s acquisition of Twitter, some consumers are moving to other platforms. Mastodon is the most profitable platform among them. Mastodon says it has 6.55 lakh customers, including 2.30 lakh new customers last week.
What is mastodon?
At first glance, Mastadon’s design looks similar to Twitter. Customers’ posts are referred to as ‘Toots’. Customers can reply to these posts, like them, repost them, and follow each other.
Even though it’s a six-year-old platform, it’s unexpected that so many people are flocking to Mastodon. Therefore, the platform is struggling to support them.
Change in functionality as looks like Twitter but
TwitterThose who join it need to choose a server first. There will be many servers by country, city and interests. Select any of them to open an account. It’s about making a customer part of the community.
Mastodon has a decentralized way of working by combining different servers. Mastodon works by connecting several servers to each other. The owners of each server are separate individuals or entities.
The server you choose will be part of your username. For example, if a person named Ram chooses a UK server, his username will be @Ram@mastodonapp.uk. If you search for it, you can find him. Just search by name for those on the same server. But the entire address must be searched to find those on different servers. Another thing is that Mastodon doesn’t suggest followers to customers like Twitter. However, there will be a facility to search hashtags.
Another thing about this is that if the server owner is unhappy or not interested in your account, they can remove it from the server. Server owners allow three months before account removal.
Each server has its own content policy. Server owners can decide on which servers to connect to and whether or not to allow content. Posts are also reported to server owners.
It does not contain ads. But there is no restriction on posting about your company or product. Like Twitter, Mastadon doesn’t decide which posts users want to see. Instead, you’ll see posts as your followers share them. Some servers ask for donations. But mostly free.
Recently there were reports that Twitter founder Jack Dorsey is building a new social media account. It is reported that this will also adopt a decentralized mode of operation like Mastodon.
