Google has denied reports that it copied Microsoft-owned OpenAI’s ChatGPT to train an AI chatbot called Bard. Alphabet’s two AI research teams have been working together for years and helped train Bard, according to a report in The Information.
Bard was developed by software engineers from Google’s Brain AI group and experts from DeepMind. A Google spokesperson also said that no data from ShareGPT and ChatGPT was used to train Bard.
Meanwhile, Bard is said to be available to general users soon. Early access to Bard has started in the US and UK, and the company said it will expand access to more countries and languages over time.
Like OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Microsoft’s Bing chatbot, Bard is based on a large language model (LLM). Specifically, it is a lightweight and optimized version of Lambda. Google also said that Bard will be updated with new and more capable AI models in the future.
