Many people today cannot imagine a life without a mobile phone. Mobile is one of the inventions that have become so integrated into human life. Wherever you look, you can see many people using mobile phones. Going a day without touching a phone is unthinkable for many.
But Martin Cooper, who is called the father of the mobile phone, says that the use of mobile phones at this level of man is not so good. He revealed in an interview to a media that he feels sad when he sees the use of mobile phones by people who have forgotten their surroundings and sense of self.
Martin Cooper was the man who spearheaded the design and development of the first portable cellular phone. In 1973, Cooper introduced the first wireless cellular phone, the Motorola Dyna TAC 8000X. Cooper is now the co-founder and current chairman of Dyna LLC in Del Mar, California.
Mobile is almost fifty years old. At this point, Cooper, who has been described as the father of the mobile phone, assesses people’s use of mobile phones with some dismay. He said that even while crossing the road, he was devastated to see people looking at their mobile screens.
“People use mobile phones without any sense of place and time. They lost their minds. Even when crossing the road, the behavior of looking at a mobile phone is reckless and dangerous. “When a few people get hit by a car, they figure things out,” Cooper explained, half joking and half serious.
In another recent interview, Cooper made the same point about mobile usage. Despite criticisms of the way people are using it, Cooper is optimistic about the future of mobile. Cooper believes that the mobile phone has a lot of potential to change society positively.
He said that mobile can revolutionize education and healthcare. He also expressed confidence that mobile phones will reach the point where diseases can be detected in the future. “I know that’s an exaggeration, but you have to know that within a generation or two, mobile will conquer disease,” Cooper said.
Despite being 94 years old, Cooper is still in touch with new devices and technology. Wears an Apple Watch and uses a top-end iPhone. He reviews almost all new phone models. But he also revealed that he could not understand how to use a cell phone like his grandchildren and their children do.
Whenever he reviews mobile phones, he criticizes the way people use them. According to him, people are wasting their valuable time using mobile phones. He has stated this many times before. Cooper advises people to try to live without the mobile phone.
He has stated in earlier interviews that he uses his mobile phone less than five percent of his time. Cooper believes that people who spend too much time on their phones live too little time. That’s why he advises the generation that spends hours on the phone to “put aside the mobile phone and try to live”.
