Videos People must have watched at least four thousand hours of videos made in the last year.
If it’s a 12-minute video, at least 20,000 people must have watched it over a 12-month period to reach 4,000 watch hours. If you are doing short videos or shorts then the rule is that it should have at least 10 million views in 90 days.
If this is enough, you can apply for the scheme. But if you want to get money, there is still a hurdle. You only get membership if the channel and content conforms to YouTube’s policies, and you earn from advertising that YouTube serves with that video. The current figure is Rs 55 for the video owner and Rs 45 for YouTube out of Rs 100 advertisement.
Not all videos get the same ad. Videos with more views get more valuable ads and thus more money. New gadgets, children’s toys and fashion products are the main advertisers. Advertising is also done by looking at the type of video that the viewers who are likely to buy their product are watching.
However, YouTube is currently the company that most generously shares ad revenue with video creators. But you can generate income on YouTube without this advertisement. The next way is to start a premium membership plan on the channel. Some videos can be uploaded for paid members only. This route is also open only if there are at least a thousand subscribers. This is not possible if you are making a video for children.
Another option provided by YouTube itself is Super Chat and Super Sticker. The program sells special emojis and stickers to your viewers. These special emojis and stickers can be used while commenting under the video. And their messages will be more important. The YouTuber will get the lion’s share of the money.
Apart from this is brand sponsorship. You can advertise on your own channel, sell products and earn money. But if it is public then it should be clarified otherwise you will get the job. There is also an opportunity to make and sell products related to your own channel. Many big YouTubers like Mr. Beast are making money this way. Many tech and beauty YouTubers have taken the same route.
Apart from this, there is another way of making money. That’s YouTube Premium. If you’re a paying YouTuber, naturally there won’t be ads. The video producer is also entitled to a share of the money paid by such people for watching the video.
It’s easy to say, but it’s a big deal to get things to click and keep them going. If YouTube’s policy changes, everything will get out of hand. Also remember that when YouTube stopped monetizing Russian accounts after the Ukraine war, ordinary Russian vloggers got a kick in the gut.
